The #1 thing your baby and toddler want out of your next adventure

Planning a trip or camping next weekend? Whatever adventure looks like for your family, there's often pressure to make the most of it.

No matter your little's age, ability, or experience, there's one thing every baby and toddler truly want from their adventures that all parents should make a priority.

✨Time with you.✨

Don’t overthink it. The baby and toddler stages are magical because YOU are their world. Just carve out quality time together, and it’s a win. Once we embraced this, our trips felt so much freer. Forget the pressure to find all the *kid-focused* activities and focus on connecting with your little one.

Some ways we do this...

Focused quality time

We first learned about the "10 minute miracle" parenting tip from the mamas behind "Big Little Feelings." It’s always helpful but especially while traveling when routines and familiar spaces are disrupted.

How it works:

Spend 10 minutes of focused, intentional one-on-one time with your child every day of your trip. Let them choose the activity. No phones, no siblings, no criticizing, and no correcting—just pure attention and unconditional love. This simple practice helps so much to maintain a deep connection and help prevent your child from acting out.

Child-friendly spaces

Our little ones don’t need to be entertained or the center of attention all the time to stay happy on vacation, but their needs for movement, play, and exploration are important to consider to help your travels go smoothly.

How it works:

Seek a child-friendly space where you're traveling each day and spend at least 15 minutes letting them explore, play, and have fun. This simple approach helps keep them content and balanced, allowing you to enjoy your trip too.

Parks, green spaces, playgrounds, the beach, all make great options, but get creative!

Local books

Exploring and connecting to a destination is so much fun with local books, and can deepen your bonds and time together on your trip.

How it works:

Buy a book at your destination that relates to it (like a sea turtle book when visiting Hawaii). Spend extra time during bedtime reading and talking about your day together. This not only makes bedtime special but also helps with your little one's brain development, memory, and bonding.
